What it changes

Every business has a set of steps that exist only because two systems do not talk, or because one person has always done it that way. They are invisible on an org chart and expensive every single day: the confirmation that takes two days because it is somebody's third priority, the figure keyed twice because it lives in two places. We map the sequence people actually follow, then remove the carrying between the steps rather than asking anyone to do it faster. The decisions stay with the people who own them; the fetching, copying and chasing stops.

In practice

The step nobody owned is now a step nobody does.

Most operational cost is not in the work, it is in the carrying: the email that moves a job to the next desk, the number typed into a second system, the approval that waits because nobody knows it is waiting. We map the sequence people actually follow, including the steps that never made it into the process document, then remove the carrying rather than making it faster. What is left is a workflow with a named owner at each decision and nothing in between them that a person has to remember to do.

An approval chain, with the carrying between steps removed
What that includes

Everything in the box, itemised.

Interface design, deployment and handover are in every engagement, so they are never quoted as extras.

  • Workflow mapping, including the undocumented steps
  • Approval and sign-off chains with a named owner
  • Automated handoffs between systems and teams
  • Scheduling, dispatch and confirmation workflows
  • Exception handling, so an odd case does not stop the line
How it runs

A typical engagement.

We sit with the people doing the work and map the real sequence before proposing anything, because the documented process and the actual one are rarely the same. Then a fixed-scope build, taking the handoffs out one at a time so the team is never asked to change everything at once.
